Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)

Chronic condition where stomach acid backs up into the oesophagus, causing burning and discomfort. Essential for effective management and prevention of complications.

Barrett's oesophagus

Change in the lining of the lower oesophagus, often resulting from chronic reflux. May increase the risk of oesophageal cancer, so surveillance is recommended.

Peptic ulcer and Helicobacter pylori infection

Sores in the lining of the stomach or small intestine, commonly due to Helicobacter pylori. Requires treatment to relieve symptoms and prevent complications.

Diverticulosis

Presence of small pouches in the colon. Often asymptomatic, but may lead to inflammation or bleeding. Important for follow-up and proper dietary management.

Functional Dyspepsia

Recurrent stomach upset with no apparent cause. Symptoms include pain, bloating and fullness. Addressed with lifestyle changes and symptomatic treatment.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Chronic disorder affecting the large intestine, causing pain, bloating and altered bowel habit. Management focuses on diet and stress reduction.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease

It includes ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, characterised by chronic inflammation of the digestive tract, leading to pain and debilitating symptoms.

Coeliac disease

Autoimmune disorder triggered by gluten consumption, damaging the small intestine and affecting nutrient absorption. A strictly gluten-free diet is essential.

Diseases of the Bile Ducts and Pancreas

Disorders affecting bile flow and pancreatic functions, including gallstones and pancreatitis. May require medical or surgical treatment.

Digestive Oncology

Specialty that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of cancers in the digestive system, including prevention, early detection and therapeutic options.

Viral Hepatitis

Liver infections caused by different hepatitis viruses. They can range from mild to chronic forms, with early detection and appropriate treatment being crucial.

Fatty Lidser

Accumulation of fat in liver cells, often related to obesity and diabetes. Treatment focuses on lifestyle changes and risk factor control.
